If you're angry about the Metaverse because of Facebook you're missing the point and already ceding the future to them. If you're angry about the Metaverse because of the limitations of Virtual Reality you're missing the point and ignoring that half of Zuckerberg's presentation featured Mixed Reality. If you're angry about the Metaverse because of previous iterations like Second Life you're missing the point and obsessing over dinosaurs (Note: actual Dinosaurs are still awesome).
Acting like a Luddite is fine but being an actual Luddite and ignorant to the true risks and rewards of the the Metaverse helps no one. We have yet to actually realize the true horrors on the horizon. Or how terribly boring it might all be.
There's going to be plenty of duds and bubbles that will burst. The meme economy will continue to thrive as Crypto Bros will lose their fortunes on virtual real estate, cryptocurrencies and NFTs. Good, they deserve it. But it's not going to stop the great and terrible emergence of this digital leviathan so for me and my house we shall try to ride it out.
